**New date announced – 20 February 2020**
Christian Aid Ireland will host a public event this month to mark the launch of their new report ‘Ireland, the ESB, and the Blood Soaked Seams of Cerrejón’. This report “looks at the relationship between the ESB, and the Cerrejón mine in Colombia which has been accused of multiple human rights abuses, and assesses whether Ireland is living up to its international human rights commitments, in particular the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.”
This is a very timely and important report, given the recent highlighting of the connections between Irish business activities and the controversial mine (including by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, the Irish Centre for Human Rights, Trócaire and in turn the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination). Here are the details of Christian Aid’s launch event:
There will be short presentation on the findings of the report, followed by a brief questions and answer session with a panel. Those interested in attending the event can register here.
