New Amnesty International investigation gives rise to questions about the Irish construction industry and Qatar 2022

Amnesty International have published the details of an investigation into the treatment of migrant workers in Qatar by a company called Mercury MENA which has worked on various infrastructure projects, including in relation to the World Cup taking place in 2022. The report – Unpaid and abandoned: the abuse of Mercury MENA workers – gives rise to questions about the connection between this company and the Irish company Mercury Engineering. Although this relationship is not addressed in Amnesty’s report, I highlighted some connections and the need for further answers in a series of tweets yesterday:
