Everyday thousands of adults and children face a life bound to slavery in the cotton production industry in Pakistan. Released bonded labourers face enormous problems reintegrating themselves into society and developing sustainable livelihoods for their families.
Re-Dress, the Dublin-based better fashion initiative, and Trócaire are hosting a discussion event, ‘Bonds that Lie’, on the subject of bonded labour in the fashion supply chain. It takes place on Thursday April 25th, 7pm at The Loft, South Studios, Dublin 8. The event will be facilitated by Susan Morrell of the Sunday Business Post and includes several speakers from Pakistan with experience of bonded labour in the cotton manufacturing industry. According to Rosie O’ Reilly, co-founder of Re-Dress:
‘Bonds that Lie’ is an opportunity for members of the fashion industry and human rights community to hear from individuals working to improve the supply chain.
The event is free and if you want to go along, you should e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
